Treatment
Levonelle (Levonorgesterel)
Levonorgestrel, a synthetic hormone, works by inhibiting ovulation and preventing sperm from fertilising an already-released egg. This pill must be taken within 3 days of unprotected sex for optimal effectiveness.
ellaOne
ellaOne contains ulipristal acetate, which prevents or delays egg release, thereby averting fertilisation and pregnancy. After taking ellaOne, it's important to use additional contraceptive precautions, such as condoms. To achieve the best results, take ellaOne within 5 days of unprotected intercourse.
Both options are most effective when used immediately after sexual contact. Remember, you can use either Levonelle or ellaOne multiple times during your menstrual cycle.

Other Options
The copper coil, also known as an IUD, is the most effective form of emergency contraception and can be inserted by a GP or family planning clinic up to 5 days after unprotected sex. If you're considering this option, we recommend still taking the morning after pill as a precaution in case an IUD cannot be fitted in time.
Important Reminder
Please remember to take a pregnancy test if your period is more than 7 days late following the use of either emergency contraception pill. Additionally, it's important to note that only women can purchase the morning after pill, and a suitability questionnaire must be completed before purchase.
