At Gilbride Pharmacy, we understand that unexpected periods can disrupt your plans and add unnecessary stress to important events or vacations. That's why we offer a convenient solution with norethisterone, a synthetic hormone that allows you to delay your period and regain control of your schedule.
With our period management medication, you can postpone your period for up to 17 days, providing you with peace of mind and eliminating the inconvenience. Norethisterone lets you resume your period a few days later, once your event has passed, making it more convenient for you.
Norethisterone
Norethisterone is a medication designed to address menstrual cycle issues and provide you with the flexibility to delay your period. Its active ingredient, norethisterone, is a synthetic version of the hormone progesterone. Instead of allowing progesterone levels to naturally decrease before your period, norethisterone mimics the effects of female hormones in your body, maintaining progesterone levels and sustaining the uterine lining. This inhibition of ovulation delays the shedding of the uterine lining and prevents your menstrual period.
How and When Should I Take It? For women of childbearing potential, the recommended dose is 5mg three times a day, to be swallowed with water. Begin taking the tablets three days before your expected period. It's essential not to exceed 17 days of usage, as prolonged use may lead to side effects and hormone imbalances.
When Will I Get My Period? You can expect your period to return 2-3 days after discontinuing norethisterone tablets.
After Stopping Treatment After discontinuing the tablets, your body may take a few days to adjust to the changes in hormone levels. If you don't experience your period within a week after stopping the tablets, take a pregnancy test to rule out pregnancy. If your period still doesn't occur, we recommend reaching out to your GP for further guidance.
Is It Suitable for Me? Please note that if you have asthma or migraines, norethisterone may trigger an attack and should be avoided. Additionally, if you are already taking certain contraceptives like the combination pill, it is not recommended to use this medication. However, it is safe to take with the mini pill.
Pregnancy Norethisterone is not a contraceptive, and it does not provide protection against pregnancy. We strongly advise using contraception such as a condom to prevent unwanted pregnancies, even while using norethisterone.
Side Effects Since you won't be taking the tablets for an extended period, the risk of side effects is limited. However, some common side effects may include rashes, itching, dizziness, headaches, nausea and breast tenderness.
